What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

Depending on the optional units you choose, you could cover things like:

  • maintaining plants
  • caring for animals
  • habitat management
  • transporting physical resources
  • preparing forest and woodland sites
  • farm conservation
  • dry stone walling.

You'll put your skills into practice and be assessed on a portfolio of evidence.

Is this level right for me?

Level 1
Is ideal if you're thinking of starting work in agriculture, horticulture or animal care and want a qualification that provides you with a good basic understanding of the industry - enough to succeed in a job or move on to further qualifications.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

You could develop the skills for a first job in all kinds of land-based areas, including things like:

  • Agricultural/Horticultural technician
  • Gardener
  • Greenkeeper
  • Groundsperson
  • Horticultural garden centre worker/Manager
  • Landscaper.

After taking the award you can move on to the certificate and then the diploma. After completing the diploma in Work-based Land-based Operations, you could start a related Level 2 qualification (centre-based or work-based) to build on your skills.

You can also progress to other qualifications or start an apprenticeship in horticulture, agriculture or environmental conservation.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

Level 1 will suit you if you're thinking of starting work in agriculture, horticulture or animal care and want a qualification that provides you with a good basic understanding of the industry - enough to succeed in a job or move on to further qualifications.
