Level 3 Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Qualification (2346)

Last Updated: 05 Mar 2024
The Experienced Worker qualification is for electricians who have been working in the industry, as a practising electrician, for at least 5 years (not including time spent in full or part time training) but have not formally completed an industry apprenticeship or equivalent Level 3 NVQ qualification.
It is suitable for both self-employed and employed electricians who have worked for several years but have never gained full, formal recognition of their skills or experience. You will need to demonstrate knowledge, understanding and competence to the standard of the Level 3 Electrotechnical apprenticeship.

Before enrolling for this qualification learners must follow the Skill Scan process as set out by TESP, to help them decide whether the Installation & Maintenance Electrician EWA is right for them and whether they meet the eligibility requirements, in terms of their existing qualifications and experience. Centres must only enrol eligible learners and direct learners who are not eligible towards other training routes.

Useful guidance, including the most up to date Skill Scan form can be found in the ewa route website.

We are issuing digital credential to learners who have completed this qualification.  Please add your learners’ email address during registration. A digital credential cannot be issued without the learner’s email address.
Available to deliver in the following:
  • England
  • Wales – please check QiW website for available funding

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

There are seven Level 3 Performance Units to be assessed before you can gain the Experienced Worker qualification:

  • Apply Practices and Procedures for Maintenance
  • Apply Health, Safety and Environmental Considerations
  • Organise and Oversee the Electrical Work Environment
  • Apply Design and Installation Practices and Procedures
  • Terminate and Connect Conductors
  • Inspect, Test and Commission Electrical Systems
  • Apply Fault Diagnosis and Rectification

To pass these units, you must provide evidence from a site of your previous work to demonstrate you can fully meet the performance requirements of each unit.

You will be assessed via a range of methods and an assessor will need to observe you at work on at least one occasion during the evidence gathering process.

Please note the Wiring and initial verification units aren’t examined within the 2346 – these are proxy units i.e. candidates need to take these separately and centres claim them as proxies to achieve the 2346.

Where cited legislation and regulations are not applicable (for example, where the qualification is being delivered outside of England) then substitutions applicable to the learner’s jurisdiction can be made.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?
To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

To find all the resource requirements for assessment and delivery, download the qualification handbook from the centre documents section.

The skills needed for the Experienced Worker Qualification are gained on the job, with learners acquiring skills from their senior colleagues.

Assessment is based on a portfolio of evidence, submitted by the learner. This should demonstrate whether or not they have met the performance requirements - something an assessor at your centre can decide.
