F GAS and ODS Regulations (2079)

Focussing on the major principles of F-Gas and Ozone depleting substances (ODS) in stationery refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump systems, learners who successfully complete this qualification will be legally entitled to work on these systems within the UK in line with the 2009 F-Gas and ODS Regulations. 
This qualification is for refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump system engineers working with fluorinated gas and ozone depleting substances.

We are issuing digital credential to learners who have completed this qualification.  Please add your learners’ email address during registration. A digital credential cannot be issued without the learner’s email address.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

There are four pathways to achieving this qualification, aligned to the four categories in the Fluorinated Greenhouse Gases (FGG) Regulations 2009. These cover areas such as:

  • Leak checking
  • Installation and maintenance of equipment
  • Recovery of refrigerant.

You will learn on the job in the classroom.

Assessment will be through practical assignment and online multiple-choice examination.

Is this level right for me?

Level 2 is ideal if you are working, or looking to work, as a refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump system engineer and have some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised. You need this qualification as a licence to practise with fluorinated gases and ozone-depleting substances.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

These qualifications can help you to work and progress as a:

  • Air-conditioning engineer
  • Heat pump system engineer.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified assessors - you can train internal members of staff or recruit specially.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards. To find all the resource requirements, download the qualification handbook from the centre documents section.

There are no eligibility requirements.

Level 2

This level will suit you if you are working, or looking to work, as a refrigeration, air-conditioning and heat pump system engineer and have some relevant skills and knowledge. You need this qualification as a licence to practise with f-gases and ODSs.

There are four pathways available:

  • Award in F-Gas and ODS Regulations: Category I - Leak checking, recovery, installation, service, maintenance of equipment
  • Award in F-Gas and ODS Regulations: Category II - Installation, service, maintenance of equipment with a charge of less than 3kg (6kg if hermetically sealed) and leakage checking
  • Award in F-Gas and ODS Regulations: Category III - Recovery of refrigerant
  • Award in F-Gas and ODS Regulations: Category IV - Leakage checking.
