This qualification assesses the intermediate and advanced level craft skills of those designing and creating leather bridles, harnesses and saddles. This qualification forms part of the apprenticeship framework for Fashion and Textiles (Saddlery).
Those working, or wishing to work, in the saddlery industry, or completing an apprenticeship.
Available to deliver in the following:

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

These qualifications will enable you to develop and demonstrate the specialist leatherworking knowledge and skills you have developed, such as:

  • cutting
  • edging
  • staining
  • creasing
  • skiving
  • stitching
  • hole punching.

You will learn in the classroom and complete a practical examination, written examination and a portfolio of evidence for assessment. More information is available form www.mastersaddlers.co.uk

Which level is right for me?

Level 2
You have intermediate leathercraft skills and experience of designing and producing bridles, harnesses and saddles.

Level 3
You have advanced leathercraft skills and experience of designing and producing bridles, harnesses and saddles.

These qualifications can help you to progress in your career as a saddler.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified assessors.  You can train internal members of staff or recruit specially.

You will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Centres currently offering the City & Guilds Level 2 and 3 Certificate in Saddlery (4744) can gain fast-track approval.

There are no formal entry requirements for candidates undertaking these qualifications; however, centres must ensure that candidates have the potential and opportunity to gain the qualifications successfully.

Level 2

You have intermediate leathercraft skills and experience of designing and producing bridles, harnesses and saddles.

You choose from one of three pathways:
Saddle
Bridle
Harness.
