Exam Date Change
Where a centre needs to change the intended day and time of a Functional Skills exam in line with Section 1.1.10 of the Instructions for Conducting Exams (ICE) document they should notify us, in advance by completing this form: Exam Change Notification Form.

Digital Functional Skills Qualifications (DFSQs) 
Our new digital Functional Skills qualifications have completed Ofqual’s Technical Evaluation and the Entry 3 and Level 1 DFSQs are now available for registration and teaching. Assessments will be available from 8 January 2024.

Functional Skills - 4748 
Our Functional Skills qualifications are intended for anyone wishing to develop their maths and English. They focus on both the underpinning skills as well as the ability to apply maths and English to different contexts. They can be completed alongside City & Guilds' English and Mathematics Skills (3847) and Principles of Using English and Mathematics (3844) qualifications, as well as being used to support learners' progress towards GCSE.

Functional Skills qualifications are available across five levels (Entry 1 to Level 2), and are completed in a wide range of college, community and work-based settings.

The increased invigilation requirements for 4748 are laid out in the Instructions for Conducting Exams (ICE) document. It is possible to apply for an invigilation exception for Level 1 & 2 Maths, Reading and Writing exams, find out more about how to apply visit this page.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

These qualifications can be delivered in a wide range of different settings.

The Entry level qualifications are internally assessed and quality assured. This is also the case for the Speaking, Listening and Communicating component for Functional Skills English at levels 1 and 2

Flexible assessment - onscreen or on paper, it's your choice
All of our externally marked Functional Skills assessments at levels 1 and 2 are available to take on any day at any time. There are two options:

  • Onscreen
    Assessments can be booked with as little as 30 minutes' notice using e-volve, our onscreen assessment platform.
  • Named on Demand
    Paper based/delivered assessments available with just two weeks' notice using our Named on Demand facility.
