You'll cover the essentials for a career in the rail industry, including things like:
- operating machinery safely
- preventing accidents on railway stations and trains
- helping passengers and answering their questions
- communicating with colleagues
- making railway stations a welcoming environment for everyone who uses them.
For an Award in Rail Services, you'll usually go to a centre. You'll learn in a group and organise your own study. You might also learn at work, or go to another workplace environment to try out equipment and see operations in action.
You'll perform tasks and build a portfolio of evidence of your skills. A City & Guilds external assessor will look at your portfolio to confirm you've got the skills and knowledge to gain the qualification.
This qualification is only available at Level 2.
If you want to move into a supervisory role, this Award can be a first step. You can then move up the career ladder and prove your skills with these other rail industry qualifications:
7587 NVQ in Rail Transport Operations - In-depth skills and knowledge about everything from driving a train to passenger services
7589 NVQ in Rail Operations - Supervisory - The skills to progress in management roles.
