Phil Borodajkewycz – Level 2 Adult Care Worker
Prior to starting his apprenticeship Phil’s job was community-based mental health support for SYHA’s Take Notice Service. He was offered the opportunity to enrol onto the Adult Care Worker Apprenticeship Programme provided by The Sheffield College.
The City & Guilds course has provided me with a deeper understanding of how best to work in my new field, covering topics from person-centred care to safeguarding to health and safety. Along with the training and mentoring I have received from my organisation, the diploma has really helped me to develop my own practice. It also aided my ability to adapt whilst moving into my temporary new role at Lister. I started on the course a few months late, so it has felt like a challenge, but my tutor has been a great source of support and knowledge and has been on hand with guidance or reassurance if needed.
I’m looking forward to working and progressing further in this field and very thankful to South Yorkshire Housing Association and The Sheffield College for all the support that has been given.
“After achieving top marks in his mock exam, Phil went on to achieve a distinction for his end-point assessment. This was completed remotely from his home via the City and Guilds platforms, which took some planning and preparation, but avoided any further delays due to the current pandemic situation. City and Guilds have been excellent in providing information regarding remote testing and swift in releasing the results for the assessments, which was a well-deserved distinction grade.” Rachelle Lewis, Phil’s tutor.
