This qualification provides the knowledge, understanding, and skills required for the design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of air source heat pump systems (ASHPs). It includes a range of relevant outcomes covering statutory legislation applicable to ASHPs, the principles of heat pumps, how to specify and design ASHPs, installation, inspection and testing, and handover of an ASHP. This qualification aligns with the MCS requirements.
This qualification is designed as CPD for qualified heating and plumbing engineers who wish to understand the requirements for design, installation, commissioning, and maintenance of Air Source Heat Pump Systems (ASHPs), typically within a domestic or small-commercial setting. By completing this qualification, engineers can enhance their expertise in regard to ASHP infrastructure, with the aim of ensuring safe and efficient installations.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?
The qualification covers:
 - Key documentation and legislation in relation to the design and installation of air source heat pump systems
 - Safety features of ASHP electrical systems
 - Characteristics of ASHP systems, components, and architectures
 - Design and installation considerations for ASHP systems
 - Elements of testing, commissioning, and handover of ASHP systems
 - Understanding the use of micro-generation and EESS as part of prosumer’s electrical installations

Candidates will be assessed by on-demand multiple-choice tests (available through the City & Guilds assessment platform e-volve) and practical assignments.
