First teaching of this qualification is September 2016

The Level 2 Technical Award in Engineering allows learners to gain theoretical knowledge and a small number of technical skills, related to the Engineering sector, not usually acquired through general education.

First teaching of this qualification is September 2017

The Level 2 Technical Certificate in Engineering is aimed at learners who are looking to start a career in the engineering-based manufacturing industry.   Learners could progress into employment, onto an apprenticeship, or further their studies by taking other qualifications at level 3.

First teaching of these qualifications is September 2016

The Level 3 Advanced Technical Certificate, Diploma and  Extended Diploma in Engineering are for learners who are looking to start in the engineering industry, covering a wide range of industry areas eg engineering design, innovation and new technologies, civil engineering, rail engineering and aerospace engineering.

The Level 2 Technical Award is aimed at learners aged 14-16 (Key stage 4) studying in full time education.

The Level 2 Technical Certificate and the Level 3 suite of qualifications are aimed at learners aged 16 – 18 and 19+.

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?
Learners interested in the Level 2 Technical Certificate in Engineering will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.
Compulsory topics include:

- Engineering workshop practice

Learners will also be able to choose additional optional topics, including:
- Welding processes
- Fabrication practice

- Electronic test equipment

Learners interested in the Level 2 Technical Award in Engineering will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks.

• Engineering Development

Learners interested in the Level 3 Advanced Technical Certificate, Diploma and  Extended Diploma in Engineering will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks. Compulsory topics include:
engineering materials
• electronics, control and instrumentation
• mechanical structures and dynamics
• manufacturing methods in engineering
• engineering design
• engineering mathematics and statistics
• engineering workshop practice
• innovation and new technologies.

Learners will also be able to choose additional optional topics, including:
• civil engineering
• aerospace engineering
• power and energy in engineering
• automotive engineering
• rail engineering
• marine engineering.
