The Diploma in Game and Wildlife Management enables you to develop and demonstrate the skills and knowledge needed for a successful career in this industry. Subjects covered include promoting, monitoring and maintaining the health, safety and security of the workplace to preparing deer for human consumption.
These qualifications are for anyone, aged 16 and over, who is interested in a career working in game and wildlife management. You may be just starting out, or taking a break from a job to get some valuable training.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

The different routes available within the Level 2 qualification are Upland/Grouse and Lowland, or Deer and Game Rearing. While those completing the Level 3 qualification can follow a career path in Gamekeeping or Deer and Game Rearing

You will learn on the job in the work environment and assessment will take place there too. You will develop a portfolio of evidence to meet the criteria of the qualification.

Which level is right for me?

Level 2
You may be new to game and wildlife management or have some knowledge and basic skills. You want to develop your skills, perhaps to start work as a gamekeeper or prepare for further training.

Level 3
You may have some experience in game and wildlife management or have gained your level 2 qualification. You want to develop the skills to be a more senior worker/ manager or to prepare for higher-level training.

What Careers Can This Lead To?
This qualification has been developed for those looking to start or progress in a career as a Gamekeeper.
What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

You'll need qualified assessors - either qualified to Level 3 or above in Game and Wildlife Management or with significant current experience of working in the industry at this level.

Internal verifiers/qualification coordinators must also be qualified or experienced in game and wildlife management.

You'll need to provide your learners with a suitable learning environment and the resources they need to complete practical and theoretical aspects of the qualification.

For both levels the following resources will be required and can be obtained from the NPTC website. Qualification Handbook and Assessor Guidance, Learner Guide and Logbook, Portfolio Builder Pack for learners and assessors, Information Guide for centres and Product Briefing Sheet.

The units will be assessed by the gathering of work-based evidence into a portfolio. The authenticity, sufficiency and validity of the evidence will be judged by the assessor.

Learners taking the qualifications as part of an apprenticeship must also undertake independent assessment. At Level 2, this is a written paper and at Level 3 there are written papers and an assignment.

You can get fast-track approval for the Level 2 qualifications if you offer:
  • Level 2 NVQ in Gamekeeping and Wildlife Management (0162).

You can get fast-track approval for the Level 3 qualifications if you offer:

  • Level 3 NVQ in Gamekeeping and Wildlife Management(0162-31).

Fast track approval is available for 1 year after the qualifications launch. Please check before you apply.

All learners must be employed in the game and wildlife industry, with access to all the resources they need to complete the qualification.

Level 2

This level will suit you if you are new to game and wildlife management or have some knowledge and basic skills. You want to develop your skills, perhaps to start work as a gamekeeper or prepare for further training.
