As the automotive landscape evolves with the rise of hydrogen-powered vehicles, our new qualification empowers individuals to enhance their knowledge and skills in safely working on and around Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) systems and components. Our Automotive Maintenance and Repair qualifications, at levels 1 through to level 4, are for anyone interested in starting or developing a career in the motor industry, whether you want to maintain and repair different types of vehicles (cars, vans, trucks, or even motorcycles), fit and replace parts and tyres, run your own car valeting business or work on hybrid vehicles safely.

They have been developed using the latest National Occupational Standards and incorporate the latest knowledge and skills for some of the most exciting and fastest-growing areas in automotive industry, such as Advanced Driver Assistance Systems and electric vehicle technology.

These qualifications are for anyone developing a career in the motor industry. You do not need any previous experience or need to be in a current work placement.

The qualifications are aimed at learners aged 16+.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You will have the opportunity to cover a wide range of skills and knowledge by taking a combination of mandatory and optional units.

Assessment methods include practical tasks, oral/written questioning and online tests.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need suitably qualified staff to carry out training and assessment.  You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

For some options you'll need to simulate a workplace where learners can demonstrate skills to diagnose faults and repair vehicles.

Anyone can take this qualification, but you must make sure all your learners can access the resources they need to complete it.

Level 1

Level 1 will suit you if you are new to the industry and would like to develop basic knowledge and skills in motor vehicle systems.

These qualifications could also be used as an ‘interest’ course for a wide range of learners.


What Careers Can This Lead To?

A qualification at Level 1 could help you get your first job as a Tyre Fitter, or help you progress onto a qualification at Level 2 or an automotive apprenticeship.

Level 2 will suit you if you have already developed a good foundation of skills and knowledge required to become a vehicle service technician and are ready to move to the next level. 

What Careers Can This Lead To?

A level 2 qualification could help you become a Car Valeter, a Light Vehicle/Heavy Vehicle/Motorcycle Service Technician or a FastFit/Tyre Technician.  It could also help you progress onto a qualification at Level 3 or an automotive apprenticeship.

Level 3

This level will suit you if you have a great deal of technical skills and knowledge and are looking to gain more responsibility by supervising others, running your own business or moving to a diagnostic technician level. You work with minimum supervision and have a good record of safety, fault correction and ensuring work meets the required standard.
