What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

You can choose the qualification that demonstrates the specialist furniture making knowledge and skills you have developed such as

  • Furniture restoration
  • Furniture making by hand
  • Manufacturing wood-based components using CNC machines
  • Design work for fitted furniture installation.

You will learn in the classroom or on the job in the work environment.

Assessment is through on-line tests and centre devised practical assignments.

Level 1
This is introduction to the furniture and wood machining industry for those with no experience.

Level 2
You are working in the furniture industry and have a basic understanding and some relevant knowledge and skills, usually from a role where you've been supervised.

Level 3
You have several years of experience in the furniture industry and wish to build on existing skills and knowledge in areas such as furniture restoration and research & development.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver these qualifications you will need qualified assessors - you can train internal members of staff or recruit specially.

You will also need suitable facilities to carry out the required training to enable learners to achieve industry standards.

Level 1

This is an introduction to the furniture and wood machining industry for those with no experience.

This comprises three mandatory units and a wide range of optional units, including:
  • Health and safety within furniture and furnishing making environments (mandatory)
  • Tools and equipment in furniture making and furnishings (mandatory)
  • Materials in furniture making and furnishings (mandatory)
  • Furniture making by hand
  • Preparation and finishing methods in furniture making
  • Finishing methods in upholstery and soft furnishings.

Level 3 is ideal if you have several years of experience in the furniture industry and wish to build on existing skills and knowledge in areas such as furniture restoration and research and development.
