Want to turn your love of sport and leisure activities into a career? This qualification is designed to give you a solid introduction to working in the sport and active leisure industry.

You'll gain greater awareness of the industry and what you can do to succeed in employment, as well as an understanding of roles, responsibilities and how employment law affects you and others.
This qualification is aimed at people who want to work or already work in the sport and active leisure industry. If you're not already in the industry, you'll need access to work experience.
You don't need any prior qualifications to take the Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning.

General Information

What Is Involved In Studying This Course?

The qualification covers:

  • Understanding employment rights and responsibilities
  • Understanding the Active Leisure and Learning Sector
  • Understanding the employing organisation.

For this qualification you'll learn in a group environment with your training provider. You'll demonstrate what you've learned through assignments. There is also an online, multiple choice exam in addition to the assignments.

Which level is right for me?

Level 2
You work or want to work in sport and active leisure industry. You'd like an introduction in working in the Active Leisure and Learning Sector and employment rights and responsibilities.

Level 3
You work or want to work in the sport and active leisure industry. You'd like a solid introduction to the legal and working requirements of the sector to increase your employability or to fulfil part of the Advanced Apprenticeship in Active Leisure and Learning.

What Careers Can This Lead To?

Achieving these qualifications gives you background knowledge that can be valuable in a number of roles, including:

  • Health and fitness instructor
  • Holiday centre worker/Manager
  • Horse riding centre manager
  • Leisure centre assistant/Manager
  • Playworker
  • Sports coach.

These qualifications form part of the Level 2 Apprenticeship and Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Active Leisure and Learning.

What Is Involved With Delivering This Course?

To deliver the Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning you'll need to provide your learners with a suitable learning environment and the resources they need to complete all aspects of the qualification. You will need qualified internal assessors.

For this qualification, you'll assess learners through externally set assignments that will be internally marked and externally verified. There is also an online multiple choice examination.

You can get fast-track approval if you offer:

  • Level 2 Certificate in Industry and Organisational Awareness (4851-12)
  • Level 3 Certificate in Industry and Organisational Awareness (4851-13)

Anyone can take this qualification. Learners must be in the industry or have access to work experience.

Level 2

Level 2 is ideal if you work or want to work in the sport and leisure industry. You'd like a solid introduction to the legal and working requirements of the sector to increase your employability or to fulfil part of the Advanced Apprenticeship in Active Leisure and Learning.

The Level 2 Award in Employment Awareness in Active Leisure and Learning aims to give learners basic awareness of the active leisure industry, in terms of understanding job roles and employment law, including how it affects them as an individual and in relation to the wider profession. This can form part of the Intermediate and Advanced Apprenticeships in Active Leisure and Learning.
